19 Feburary 2007

It has been a while since i made any updates...this is mainly due to the fact that i have found a full-time programming job and have been pretty busy during the past few months. However, that does not mean that this website is a goner. In fact, as you can see, i have given the website a new design. I'm also in the midst of coding another new demo, so expect to see more updates soon. By the way...Happy New Year Everyone!!!

27 November 2006

After another month of silence, i'm back with a couple of screenshots to show. The first image below illustrates a lighting technique called High Dynamic Range (HDR) lighting. Description of the technique can found here.

The second image illustrates a post-processing effect called Depth of Field. My implementation was based on one of the techniques described in the book ShaderX2 - Real-Time Depth of Field Simulation.

High/Low dynamic range comparison Rollover for LDR image.

Depth of field in action. Camera focus is on the house. Rollover to focus on the pillars.

Uploaded a gameplay video footage of my W.I.P game demo Guardian Seven which you can view below.

8 September 2006

I have uploaded a new demo illustrating a technique called hemispheric lighting. This demo also incorporates the shading technique ambient occlusion which i mentioned in my previous post. As usual, the demo can be found in the portfolio section or by clicking here. Enjoy!

6 September 2006

Recently, i have been playing around with a shading technique call ambient occlusion. Ever since its introduction into the real-time rendering fields, i have always wanted to implement it into my game engine. So after several days of hard work, that idea became a reality. I managed to come up with a simple demo show casing the difference between an object lit with ambient occlusion and one that is not. The demo is still W.I.P and i will upload it once its ready. Until then, you will have to make do with the screenshot below.

5 August 2006

Some quick updates...i have removed the screenshot of the week section because i found it sort of redundant when there is the random development screenshot section. I have also added a shoutout box so now visitors can voice out their comments. Remember to leave me a "shout".

5 August 2006

After one day of hardwork, i'm back with two minor updates.

  1. I have uploaded a new demo illustrating a technique call cel-shading. The demo can found at the portfolio section or by clicking here.
  2. A random developement screenshot section was added. Now you will be able to view screenshots from my past/current projects.

Cheers!!!

4 August 2006

Firstly, let me start off by saying that this post will be HUGE.

Updates on myself

After serving the nation for 2 years and close to 4 months, i'm finally gonna ORD and leave the army this coming 22th. The only last training that i would need to complete before i can be declared ORD is the Civilian Conversion Course. Yes!!! FREEDOM~~~here i come!!!

Updates on W.I.P game demo

Now back to some serious updates... Few months ago i have mentioned that i have stopped the development of my game demo. Back then, progress of the demo was slow and i was kinda disappointed. Therefore, i thought of taking a short break and focus my time on developing demos which can be completed in a short amount of time. This resulted in the development of the 3 mini demos (which can found in the portfolio section), with each illustrating a different technique that can be implemented in real-time. After the 3 demos that i have did, i felt bored. Thus, some time in july i have resumed the development of the game demo. Not only did i resume development, i have also finally decided to name my project Guardian Seven. Cool name? Details on GS will be posted soon.

Updates on misc stuff

  • I have redesigned the main page and added a new Screenshot of the week section.
  • This update was done at 5am............time to sleep.......ZZzzzz

21 June 2006

During the past one week, i have been working on a new DirectX demo based on a technique called environment mapping. The implementation was pretty trivial, however the result is impressive if you would ask me. The demo can be found in the portfolio section or by clicking on the link here. Now, time to head back to more textbook reading for my next demo.

8 June 2006

I have uploaded a new DirectX demo which you can find here. The demo shows a technique that makes objects glow, thus making them appear brighter than their surroundings.

29 May 2006

As promised during my last post, i have uploaded my first demo for this website. The demo demonstrates 2 rendering techniques, the first being bump mapping and the second being parallax mapping which actually is an improvement of bump mapping. The demo can found under the Portfolio section or by clicking here.

23 May 2006

After several months without any updates, one might think that this website is a goner...thats not true, i'm just plain lazy and occuiped to do anything. Now that i'm finally making an effort to post this update, why not make it a big one? =P

Changes made

  1. All the broken links in this website have been fixed. (yes i know...i promised to do this 4 months ago...)
  2. I have rearrange the contents of the website thus making things more organised.
  3. At the bottom of every news that is posted, there will be a View/Post Comments link which visitors can click and discuss about the news.

Soon to come

  1. In a few days time, i will be uploading one of the demo that i have created. The demo demonstrates a widely popular technique called bump mapping that is used in recent games.
  2. I'm currently in the middle of writing an article about how to create a file format/exporter for 3dsmax. I hope to finish it before the end of this month.

I have also decided to stop the development of my W.I.P game demo so that i can focus my time on more important stuff. Below is a latest screenshot of the W.I.P game demo.
